Maggie's Pureland Giveaway

I first tried soapnuts over 6 months ago. I was having a conversation with a friend about ways to wash cloth diapers that wouldn't be irritating to the skin. We found many homemade chemical-free recipes but I still wasn't sold. I dug deeper and stumbled upon a site about soapnuts. I was curious. Can we really wash our clothing with a berry from a tree and have fresh, clean clothes? Is that possible? Surely we need chemicals to achieve a satisfactory level of clean, I thought. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that we don't! NO chemicals are needed. Soapnuts are simple. You can use them as a whole berry in a cotton cloth bag or you could boil them into water and use the liquid. Which ever is easier for you. I prefer the liquid because I could add my own essential oils.
Maggie's has their own liquid formula of soapnut liquid, tea tree oil and lavender essential oil. I love the scent and if you know about essential oils you'd know that tea tree and lavender have antibacterial/disinfecting properties to them. The thing with soapnuts that you need to know is that they are low sudsing. So if you don't see a million bubbles like store bought detergents that is perfectly normal. It's still working. Store bought detergents generally have a "foaming agent" mixed right in to create lots of bubbles and make us consumers think they are working so well. Soapnuts release their saponin slowly. If you wash in hot water you only need two nuts in the cotton bag and only use them once. If you wash on cold you use about 4 nuts and can reuse them up to 4 times generally.
Soapnuts can not only be used for laundry but also as a fruit/veggie wash, in the dishwasher, to hand wash dishes, your hair, skin problems like eczema, and as a natural pest repellant. There are so many uses for soapnuts. You'd be amazed.

You know I love soapy things, this sounds so neat. I've never known anyone that has tried it, I'd definitely love to give it a try.

And a major plus that I learned (and never even thought of) is that it is biodegradable! Duh! This would be perfect for a graywater system, wouldn't kill plants! I would love set up a graywater system later on for our house.

And if I won......... I think I'd give the liquid a try so I can add whatever oils I want, since I've got tons :)

Thanks for hosting this on your blog! I will definitely share this with friends and family, and blog about it as well :)

i want this because it is replacing Nonoxynal-9 as a spermicide, which is something that weighs on my mind daily...
let me win because i think that our laundry and dish soap is killing us. PLUS, i kind of remember telling you about Ayurvedic medicine around like 2001, and how it is better than this western crap...

Ya know a few months ago I saw the link to Maggie's on your site and checked it out. I LOVED the fact that you could use all natural nuts to wash your clothes to get them just as clean as the chemical stuff you buy from Walmart.
I read this article and learned that the soap nuts can also be used to wash your hair which has really inspired me to buy some products from her to try on my unruly thick hair. If I win your giveaway I would definitely love to try the actual soap nuts themselves, that way I could experiment with them as clothes detergent and as a hair cleanser.
